Kailuhia (Hia) Lam was born and raised in Honolulu and graduated from Punahou High School. Watching his Dad and older brother play growing up, Hia had a racket in his hand before he could stand! He played many sports from a young age, including basketball, baseball, and volleyball, but ultimately decided to focus on taking his competitive tennis to the next level.
As a junior, he participated in USTA programs and competed in tournaments reaching a #1 ranking for the Hawaii Pacific Section. Kailuhia then attended college at the University of Washington and played for the Division I Men’s Tennis Team while earning Scholar-Athlete Awards. After graduating college, Kailuhia returned home to pursue a career in environmental science. He has gained experience in natural resource management and engineering around Hawaii and previously coached classes for the Play and Learn Program. Passionate about the sport and supporting the next generation of players, Hia decided to take his career back to tennis. Kailuhia is the Program Manager for the ShortCourt Program and Schools Tennis Program and manages all expos, fairs, events, etc. You can find Hia at community events, around your local tennis courts, or catching waves at Ala Moana when the surf’s up!
